Ash being removed from Sixteen Mile Creek

In early December we encountered the forestry crews in Oakville taking down the extensive numbers of ash trees from the ravine at Sixteen Mile Creek (just north of Glen Abbey golf course). The ash trees are a mixture of green, white, and black ash, and made up approximately 20% of the former tree canopy in Oakville. The management decision was made to cut down the dead ash trees rather than to leave them as standing deadwood, which I can only assume was chosen due to the public hazards associated with falling limbs. Whether the deadwood will be left in the forest or removed is a question for a few months from now...Hopefully they leave it to provided nutrients and habitat.
