Emerald Ash Borer and our 'Lazarus' Tree

As many people in eastern North America are aware, emerald ash borer (EAB) is an invasive insect which indiscriminately feeds on and destroys ash trees (of which there were approximately 8-10 billion), killing 99.9% of the trees it infests. Here in Oakville the EAB established in around 2010, and for the first few years after that we had our 50cm DBH white ash injected with TreeAzin to ward off the EAB. Unfortunately the crown began to dwindle, and we made the decision to have the tree cut down, but kept the tree stump in the yard. In the years following, the tree has grown back from the dead (hence the biblical reference to Lazarus in the title of this blog), and is becoming substantial again - have a look at the pictures!
